Wildlife Photography Outing

What is the outing about: Wildlife Photography
Date and Time: Saturday 26 June 2021
Venue: Rhino and Lion Park, Kromdraai
Cost: Park Entry fee of R per person

So, Saturday morning the 26th of June saw us on the road quite early to the Lion and Rhino Park, situated at Kromdraai. Not having been on a Club outing for so long had me for one up really early. 04:00 to be exact. The car was packed with camera, tripod?? Cooler bag, braai essentials and chairs. We hit the Freeway just after 07:00 to be at the park shortly after the gates opened at 08:00.

We arrived safely and proceeded to sightsee and take in what the Park had to offer. As we cruised around, we came across many of the Reserve’s antelope, which included Sable, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Eland, Springbok, and some great looking Buffalo. Also saw the Rhinos and their calves. Lots of ostriches as well. We also encountered Black backed Jackal and lovely little Mongoose.

Onto the Picnic area, lovely and neat. Everyone had their masks on, and social distancing was maintained. It was lovely to spend time with the members that attended. Lots of catching up and banter around the braai fire. There were a few ground squirrels and warthogs around that were quite curious about us. After the braai we then all piled into our cars to go back to the Predator Enclosure to see the feeding.

All in all, it was an awesome outing spent with likeminded people. It would have been lovely if more members had joined, but it is understandable under the current circumstances. Being out in the open was a bonus and it is somewhere I for one would visit again. Many thanks to Barry Clayton for organizing the outing.
